Traditional Thai Massage
Dry-pressure Thai massage with assisted stretching, on a mat. No oil.
In short
Traditional Thai massage is a firm, dry treatment on a mat with assisted stretching and no oil. We bring the mat and clothing; treatments run from 60 to 180 minutes.
Traditional Thai massage works along the body's pressure lines using palms, thumbs, elbows and feet, combined with assisted stretching. It is performed on a mat with you fully clothed in loose garments, and uses no oil.
The stretching is what distinguishes it from every other treatment here. Your therapist moves your limbs and trunk through positions you would struggle to reach alone, which is why people describe it as a full-body reset rather than a massage, and why the effect on how freely you move tends to outlast the session.
It is the most vigorous of our treatments and the one most people mean by "Thai massage".
Who is this massage suitable for?
Stiffness through the back, shoulders and hips.
Desk workers with restricted range of movement.
Anyone who wants to move more freely rather than simply feel relaxed.
Anyone who prefers firm pressure to a relaxing oil massage.
When should I avoid this treatment?
Please tell us before booking if you are pregnant, have had recent surgery, have a fracture, osteoporosis, a slipped disc, deep-vein thrombosis, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or are receiving treatment for cancer. We may recommend a gentler treatment instead.
What does the therapist bring?
A folding mat, fresh linen and loose cotton clothing in your size.
How should I prepare?
A clear floor space of about two metres by one, a light meal at least an hour beforehand, and somewhere to change.
Professional conduct
This is a therapeutic treatment. Draping is used throughout and your therapist will ask before working on any area. Nothing outside a professional massage is offered.
